Best Coffee Shops in River North, Chicago

Best Coffee Shops in River North, Chicago

Whether you need a pick-me-up, study spot, date location, or you just love the taste of espresso, finding a good coffee shop that fits the aesthetic you want can be tricky. Fortunately, some of the best coffee shops in River North offer this type of sanctuary. However, spoiler alert: there are no Starbucks locations in this list.

These are my favorite coffee shops in River North – and hopefully yours soon too.

Edie’s All Day Café

Locations: 675 N Wells and 354 W Hubbard (coming soon)

Edie’s is a local Chicago favorite. The menu is incredible, the staff is superb, and the coffee is *chef’s kiss.* This is the perfect spot to meet a friend and catch up or take your mom when she’s in town to visit. Due to the success of the first location, a new Edie’s is set to open on Hubbard in Spring 2022. Hooray!

Blue Bottle Coffee

Location: 313 W Wolf Point Plaza (near the Franklin-Orleans bridge)

Blue Bottle first came to fame in San Francisco. Now the trendy spot has opened its first Chicago location in River North. This is one of the best coffee shops in River North to study or conduct a meeting. The decoration is minimal, wood styling and overall this River North coffee shop has a very calming vibe. In addition to coffee, they also offer a small menu (i.e. a delicious avocado toast).

Caffe Umbria

A post shared by Caffe Umbria (@caffeumbria)

Location: 346 N Clark St.

Caffe Umbria is another one of my favorite spots in River North to grab a coffee. They have some very unique latte options – like Lavender or (my personal favorite) the Caffè al Pepe. Some ingredients include: with cinnamon, honey, nutmeg, and pepper! It tastes like Christmas in a cup. Inside, seating is limited, but they also have a few chairs outside for when the weather is nice.

Foxtrot Market

Locations: 401 N Wells and 114 W Chicago

Foxtrot is definitely my favorite coffee shop in River North. While I understand it is more of a grocery store/market than a coffee shop, I don’t care. I love the vibes, it’s a one-stop-shop, and you always end up meeting friendly people here.

Alright, I definitely am craving a coffee after this post. Hope you enjoy these amazing coffee shops in River North!

For those who missed it, we bought an apartment in Milan! After months of going over design and layout updates, we have kicked off demos! I am sad to see our beautiful wood floors go but because of the building’s heating system (partially in the floor) that needs to be replaced and some mold, we said goodbye. 😓 We will be replacing with something hopefully as equally beautiful.

Let’s see if I’m strong enough for all of the keyboard warriors with their opinions LOL. Either way, I’m excited this project is underway!
