How to Spend 3 Days in the Dolomites: Carezza, Italy in Summer

How to Spend 3 Days in the Dolomites: Carezza, Italy in Summer

Visiting the Dolomites is an incredible experience. Whether you’re planning a trip to the Dolomites in summer or winter, you are bound to have an amazing time. Here is the recap on how I spent 3 days in the Dolomites, a tiny town in the Italian Dolomites.

Table of Contents

  • Where to Stay? I Chose Hotel Adler
  • Lago di Carezza
  • Visit the Grand Hotel Carezza Residence
  • Dinner in Moena
  • Rainy Weather Backup Plan
  • Meander Pozza di Fassa
  • Enjoy Dinner at Ristorante Christommanos
  • Drive and Explore the Dolomites
  • Enjoy 3 Days in the Dolomites!

Where to Stay? I Chose Hotel Adler

Your stay in Carezza or the Dolomites can be as posh or humble as you like. There are options of 5-star hotels and also plenty of campgrounds for campers – the experience is really up to you. Considering most of my 3 days in the Dolomites is outdoors, I prefer quality over luxury.

I stayed at the Hotel ADLER, a cozy, family-run bed and breakfast. While the hotel could use a few modern touches, the warmth and kindness of the owners more than make up for it. Our wood-paneled room felt incredibly homey, and the daily breakfast spread was the perfect start to long mountain days. Bonus: there’s a small bar for a nightcap and a ski room for winter visitors.

Lago di Carezza

After checking in, the first stop was the enchanting Lago di Carezza. No photo truly captures how surreal the lake looks in person. The mirror‑like water glows in brilliant turquoise and emerald tones, framed perfectly by the jagged peaks of the Latemar group.

Parking along the road is prohibited (and very unsafe) so use the large paid parking lot. It’s reasonably priced and includes access to bathrooms, a snack shop, and a gift shop. The lake is fenced off to preserve its delicate ecosystem, so swimming isn’t allowed, but the views more than make up for it.

Visit the Grand Hotel Carezza Residence

Stepping inside the Grand Hotel Carezza Residence feels like entering a living museum of alpine history. Originally built in the late 19th century, the hotel once hosted royalty, writers, and climbers drawn to the dramatic peaks surrounding Carezza. Even if you’re not staying there, you can wander the grounds, admire the traditional Tyrolean architecture, and explore the paths behind the hotel that lead to quiet viewpoints perfect for photos. My fiancé grew up visiting the Grand Hotel Carezza Residence – a place that feels like stepping back in time. Even if you aren’t staying there, it’s worth a walk around the historic property to enjoy the epic mountain backdrop.

Dinner in Moena

From Carezza, take a scenic 30‑minute drive through the mountain roads to the charming village of Moena, affectionately known as the Fairy of the Dolomites thanks to its glowing lights and alpine charm.

Wander through the pedestrian streets and stop for an aperitivo at one of the many inviting bars. Then head a bit higher up the mountain to Malga Panna, a Michelin‑starred restaurant that perfectly blends farm‑to‑table cuisine with traditional Alpine flavors.

While they offer tasting menus, you can also order à la carte. Prices are surprisingly reasonable for a Michelin restaurant, and it’s an absolute must‑visit.

Rainy Weather Backup Plan

Of course the weather can always be unpredictable. We woke up on our second morning to a storm. In fact, be aware, especially if you plan to hike, as the weather can change very quickly – be prepared!

If the forecast looks stormy, treat yourself to a few relaxing hours at QC Terme Dolomiti. Their 5‑hour spa pass gives you more than enough time to enjoy steam rooms, saunas, relaxation areas, and thermal pools. It’s an ideal reset before diving back into adventure.

Meander Pozza di Fassa

Whether or not you visit the spa, be sure to wander around Pozza di Fassa. This charming town in Val di Fassa features a variety of B&Bs, artisanal shops, and outdoor‑gear boutiques.

One of my favorite stops is Eder Officina Naturale, an artisanal shop packed with handmade soaps, unique grappas, herbal products, and delicious fruit compotes.

Enjoy Dinner at Ristorante Christommanos

Ristorante Christomannos offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience rooted in Ladin and Alpine culinary traditions. Expect dishes featuring local game, mushrooms, aged cheeses, and regional wines. The restaurant’s warm wooden interiors create the perfect ambiance after a day of exploring. If you’re visiting during peak seasons, reservations are recommended, as the small dining room fills quickly with both locals and travelers in the know. End the evening with a cozy dinner at Ristorante Christomannos, known for its intimate alpine atmosphere and hearty regional dishes.

Don’t forget to end the dinner with trying a sugar cube soaked in their homemade grappa!

Drive and Explore the Dolomites

This final day is perfect for exploring the breathtaking scenery around Carezza at your own pace. Whether you’re an avid hiker or prefer leisurely scenic drives, the region offers countless ways to appreciate its beauty.

If you enjoy driving, consider looping through Val di Fassa and making quick stops at panoramic points like Passo Sella or Passo Gardena. Photographers will love the early morning light in these spots. For a more relaxed adventure, visit nearby villages such as Vigo di Fassa or Canazei, known for their charming streets and delicious bakeries. Your final day is all about exploring the breathtaking landscapes around Carezza. Whether you choose scenic drives, gentle walks, or more adventurous hikes, the Dolomites don’t disappoint.

Great options include:

  • The Rosengarten/Catinaccio panorama
  • The Passo Costalunga drive
  • Visiting Nova Levante for additional viewpoints
  • Short hikes to alpine huts (rifugi)

Take your time and enjoy the ever‑changing scenery – you’ll constantly want to stop and take photos.

Enjoy 3 Days in the Dolomites!

Before leaving, take some time to browse local shops for artisanal regional products. Think speck, mountain cheeses, herbal teas, wooden crafts, and small-batch grappas. These make wonderful souvenirs or gifts.

If you’re visiting in winter, Carezza also offers family-friendly ski slopes, snowshoeing trails, and cozy mountain huts where you can enjoy hot chocolate or mulled wine with a view.

Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a foodie, or simply someone who loves beautiful landscapes, your 3 days in the Dolomites will leave you with unforgettable memories and a strong desire to return. This wraps up an incredible weekend exploring Carezza and its surrounding valleys. While Carezza may be a small town, it’s a perfect base for discovering the magic of the Dolomites. With its mix of lakes, mountain views, charming villages, and world‑class dining, it’s easy to see why 3 days in the Dolomites feels both relaxing and unforgettable.

Let the mountains work their magic – you’ll already be planning your return!

For those who missed it, we bought an apartment in Milan! After months of going over design and layout updates, we have kicked off demos! I am sad to see our beautiful wood floors go but because of the building’s heating system (partially in the floor) that needs to be replaced and some mold, we said goodbye. 😓 We will be replacing with something hopefully as equally beautiful.

Let’s see if I’m strong enough for all of the keyboard warriors with their opinions LOL. Either way, I’m excited this project is underway!
