The 5 Best Cafes in Rome

The 5 Best Cafes in Rome

It isn’t difficult to find the best cafes in Rome. In Italy, coffee is king and a very important part of daily ritual and Italian culture.

Table of Contents

  • Sant’ Eustachio Il Caffè
  • Pascucci
  • Caffe Tazza del Oro
  • Bar Farnese
  • Barnum Cafe

Sant’ Eustachio Il Caffè

Piazza di S. Eustachio, 82

The Sant’ Eustachio Il Caffè has been open since 1938. It’s prime location between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona allows it to be an excellent one-stop-shop for any coffee needs. There is no seating inside, so you’ll order your coffee at the bar and drink it standing there. This is typically of Italian coffee culture. While you’re in there, browse the packaged coffee, pick up a Moka, try the chocolate-covered coffee beans, and more. Leave with some great souvenirs to brag you came to one of the best cafes in Rome!

Pascucci

Via di Torre Argentina, 20

Pascucci is absolutely one of my favorite cafes in the city center! Family run and beyond friendly, this is a local favorite to stop in for a breakfast pastry or lunch panino and quick espresso. It also has the city’s best cappuccino. They had some sugar to the froth with a touch of spice and it is to die for. They also specialize in frullati, a type of light fruit smoothie. I used to study a few doors down (so I am slightly biased), but this is the #1 best cafe in Rome.

Caffe Tazza del Oro

Via degli Orfani, 84

Kitty corner to the Piazza del Panteon, you find the incredible Caffe Tazza del Oro. Many come in for a delicious and rich espresso. However, the real show stopper is the granita con panna (slushy coffee with cream) especially in the hot Italian months. Grab your granita to go and sit on the fountain overlooking the Pantheon.

Bar Farnese

Via Dei Baullari, 20

Bar Farnese isn’t over the top like some of the other cafes in Rome. This is exactly why it makes the top 5 best cafes in Rome! The few tables out front are often occupied by locals, but step inside and enjoy one of the best espressos of your life! It’s about a minute walk from Campo dei Fiori, so fuel up before or after checking out the daily market. Be sure to order at least one pastry to try.

Barnum Cafe

Via del Pellegrino, 87

Barnum is a cute cafe and bistro on a cute side street of Rome. Not only do they serve delicious Italian coffee and pastries, they have some American favorites as well. I’m talking about avocado toast to scrambled eggs. There will be something for everyone. Keep in mind, you won’t be able to get a late-night espresso here. Barnum closes at 4pm.
