The Best Restaurants in Old Town, Chicago

The Best Restaurants in Old Town, Chicago

Whether you live in Chicago or are just visiting, you’ll likely wind up at one of the best restaurants in Old Town, Chicago eventually. This neighborhood is home to the famous Second City, which I highly recommend going to a show if you haven’t already. Old Town’s easy access to the lakefront and plethora of bars and restaurants on Wells Street makes it a popular destination to take a break and enjoy a bite to eat.

Table of Contents

  • Topo Gigio
  • Twin Anchors
  • Adobo Grill
  • Gallucci’s
  • Kamehachi
  • Old Jerusalem
  • Utopian Tailgate
  • Uproar

Topo Gigio

For homestyle Italian comfort food, look no further than Topo Gigio. The generous pasta portions and wine go down very easy. Whether you’re sitting inside at the bar or outdoor on the patio, you are guaranteed a packed restaurant ranging from family meals to first dates to large groups of friends. It is a classic Old Town restaurant that you must check out.

Twin Anchors

While Twin Anchors is a no frills restaurant, prepare yourself to devour some incredibly juicy and delicious ribs. Since 1937, this Chicago-staple has been serving up large slabs of ribs. They do not take reservations, so plan accordingly. However, I can promise it is worth the wait.

Adobo Grill

Just off the bustling Wells Street, you will find the Adobo Grill. This Mexican restaurant serves delicious food and even has a nice patio space, which makes it a popular restaurant in the summer. This is a great spot to head to for dinner before catching a show at Second City across the street.

Gallucci’s

I admit I am a snob when it comes to Neapolitan pizza. However, Gallucci’s delivers a 5 star rating, making it one of the best restaurants in Old Town. Their menu offers various red and white pizzas with both traditional and unique toppings. If you are Negroni fan, Gallucci may earn bonus points – they serve it on tap!

Kamehachi

Kamehachi is a Japanese family-run business, now operated by its third generation. While the sashimi and sushi are fresh and delicious, don’t miss out on their other hot and cold menu items. I recommend coming here as a group and ordering a bunch of dishes to share.

Old Jerusalem

For casual dining and delicious Middle Eastern food, come to Old Jerusalem. Their falafal sandwich is a local favorite, but everything on the menu is *chef’s kiss.* Be sure to order a pastry before you leave as well.

Utopian Tailgate

Utopian Tailgate is where the 20 and 30-somethings come out to see and be seen in the summer. The rooftop is filled with games and fun from cornhole to giant Jenga to tire swings. It’s by far one of the most popular spots in Old Town on a nice day. It also has an incredible view of the Chicago skyline. While the food and drinks are ok, you definitely come here for the atmosphere.

Uproar

I recommend checking out Uproar for a weekend brunch. From 10am – 4pm, you can have bottomless drinks and a food item for $60. (The drinks include margaritas, mimosas, Bloody Marys, etc!). Book a reservation, as it gets crowded.

For those who missed it, we bought an apartment in Milan! After months of going over design and layout updates, we have kicked off demos! I am sad to see our beautiful wood floors go but because of the building’s heating system (partially in the floor) that needs to be replaced and some mold, we said goodbye. 😓 We will be replacing with something hopefully as equally beautiful.

Let’s see if I’m strong enough for all of the keyboard warriors with their opinions LOL. Either way, I’m excited this project is underway!
